Endorse the Code

All NGOs responding to HIV are invited to sign on to the Code as a way of publicly committing to this shared vision.

Endorsing the Code means that an NGO supports ALL principles, even if it does not deliver a full continuum of services. It demonstrates the commitment to continuous improvement and movement toward best practice principles.

The Code Secretariat provides tools to help NGOs assess how their programmes measure up to Code principles and to implement the parts of the Code relevant to their work

Who can sign on?
Any NGO working in the field of HIV/AIDS that supports the Code's aims can voluntarily sign on to the Code.

What does it mean to endorse the Code?
By signing on to the Code, NGOs publicly signal their endorsement of all of the Code's principles. Implementation of these principles remains the responsibility of NGO signatories, but the Code Secretariat will provide assistance to help implement the parts of the Code relevant to their work, in a time frame appropriate to their needs, with an emphasis on continuous improvement over time.

Signing on to the Code also means that the NGO agrees to self-evaluate in an effort to measure and improve performance against social and ethical objectives.

What doesn't it mean?
The Code is a comprehensive document, reflecting the very diverse activities by NGOs responding to HIV/AIDS. Signing on to the Code does not commit an NGO to implement programs on ALL aspects of the Code, but rather that the NGO supports the Code's principles in full. NGOs cannot sign on to only parts of the Code.
